CLAS 4 Schools: making a library they’ll love

CLAS 4 Schools aims to help schools to build and maintain an effective, easy-to run library that will:

  • increase children’s enjoyment of reading

  • raise standards of literacy

  • teach valuable research skills

  • and help children learn and succeed.

Its Director is Diana Weiss, formerly the librarian of a highly successful primary school in Surrey. Diana combines an extensive knowledge of both traditional and contemporary books with the practical ability to set up a library from scratch or to revitalise an existing one. She says:

“Because I’ve been a school librarian myself, I know the do’s and don’ts of creating a great school library. I also know that funds, staff and time can be in short supply. The aim of CLAS 4 Schools is to make it that bit easier for a school to offer their children a library they’ll love.

“However, not every school can run to a library. So we also aim to inspire children with school book fairs and visits from their favourite authors.”
